Day 1–2: Gheralta Mountains Trekking
Day 3: Hawzen – Mekele – Fly to Addis Ababa
Full Description
Day 1: Mekele – Gheralta
Drive about 100 km from Mekele to the massive Gheralta Mountains.
After breakfast, begin trekking for about 1.5 hours to reach the old church on the sky called Youhans Maqudi.
Continue trekking for 3–4 hours to visit the colorful decorated church of Abune Abraham.
Later descend to the base camp and spend the night camping in a village under a large tree.
Day 2: Gheralta
After breakfast, continue trekking while enjoying wonderful views, wildlife, and traditional Tigray houses.
Visit the church of Mariam Papsite before returning to base camp after about 4 hours of trekking.
Overnight camping in the village of Korkor.
Day 3: Gheralta – Mekele – Addis Ababa
After an early breakfast, trek to the highest point of the Gheralta Mountains (2700 meters above sea level)
to enjoy breathtaking views in all directions. After lunch, visit the churches of Mariam Korkor and Danile Korkor.
Finally, walk to Hawzen and drive back to Mekele before flying to Addis Ababa.
